Born in Tokyo, Japan, Megumi Sasaki grew up in Frankfurt, Germany where she received her Diplom (master's degree) in Classical Violin and Instrumental Education from Hochschule fuer Musik und Darstellende Kunst, Frankfurt/Main. She came to the U.S. in 2003 to study Jazz Violin with the 'World Scholarship' and earned a diploma in Violin Performance at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.
Megumi plays a variety of music styles, such as classical, jazz, pop, folk, improvisational and musicals. She has performed with various orchestras and ensembles throughout the New England area, as well as in Europe and Japan, and has appeared on numerous recordings. In 2005, Megumi received the Berklee String Department Achievement Award, and in 2008 her duo, Artis was selected by the International Acoustic Music Award as the featured artists. Her first CD 'Artis' was released in 2007.
She currently lives in Portland, Oregon, and joined the Jewish Community Orchestra as concertmaster. She is a passionate and patient violin teacher and enjoys working with students of all ages and levels.
